Are You Working Hard In Voice Over And Getting Nowhere - A Look At Priorities

Apr 20, 2021
voice over work

Here is a thought:

You have been tasked with digging a ditch along side other ditch diggers. You decide to work harder than all the other ditch diggers there, because you believe by working harder than everyone, you will dig the biggest ditch.

So ... you pick up a stick, and begin to dig. You are working harder than everyone else now, sweating and breathing hard. As you take a quick break, you see a fellow ditch digger with a tractor digging his ditch, working 1/10th as hard as you, but 10x's faster than you.

The man with the tractor is sitting in an air conditioned cabin siping on an iced tea. "How can this be" ... you say. "I am the hardest working person here, but I will never catch up to the man with the big tractor."

I love this analogy because I see so many voice actors working hard day and night, but not getting very far. And then you see another person, working half as hard, pass by them simply because of the tools they are using.

The only way we are going to get ahead of everyone else is to use the right tools so that we can "10x" our hard work.

It has been said many times that all you have to do to succeed is build a better mousetrap. My thought is understanding that leverage is your key to getting to where you want to go in voice over faster than working hard and getting nowhere is the better mousetrap.

Using tools like websites, video software, recording software, online business services, etc. to help you be more than, "One Person Against The Machine", is key to your growth.

Here is a thought ...

Many of us work on freelance websites like Fiverr and Upwork, etc. But most of us have never bought any services from these websites for ourselves.

People are using our services to succeed faster, we should do the same.

Whatever you do, always think about how you can build a better mousetrap. You don't have to be Einstien, all you need are better tools.
