The timer counts the words and works out the running time at the pace you pick. We time our own scripts at 150 words a minute, a relaxed conversational pace. Your pace is your own, though. For the real number, read the script out loud once with a stopwatch, then set the pace to match.
At 150 words a minute, about 75. Our 30-second scripts run 56 to 89 words.
It changes with the book. A thriller moves faster than a memoir. Time one page of your own reading and use that number.
It counts anything with a space around it. Say numbers, dates and web addresses out loud when you time them, because 2026 takes longer to say than one word.
