Founder, Marketing 101
Anthony is a full-time voice actor and the founder of VO Journey Academy and Academy Voices. He teaches Marketing 101, the business side of voice over, every Tuesday night.
Before voice over, Anthony was a theatre and performance teacher and a technical director. He spent his days directing other people, and he missed performing himself.
He booked his first audiobook in his first month as a voice actor, a short sports training book, and recorded it in a booth he built from PVC pipe and packing blankets next to his refrigerator. The mic was a $40 Blue Snowball on a stand borrowed from his school. For eight to ten months he taught all day and narrated at night on one to two hours of sleep, and once the school year was out he went full time.
He started VO Journey Academy to teach what he had to figure out the hard way: how to act on the mic, and how to run a real voice over business from a home studio. Later he built Academy Voices, where VO Journey members narrate real audiobooks for real authors.
Marketing 101 is the business side of voice over. It's taught from a lesson plan and covers the things nobody tells you when you start, like how ACX works and what to charge. Other weeks it's quoting a job, reading a contract, spotting a scam before it costs you, or finding clients.
Class opens with a few member reads and notes before the lesson, so you'll hear the acting side too. It's recorded, so if you miss a Tuesday you can watch it back.
